PAULO STATE GOVERNOR EXPRESSES SUPPORT TO THE INTERNATIONAL
FILM FESTIVAL
São
Paulo State Governor Geraldo Alkmin; Marcos Mendonça,
his secretary for
Culture; and Dalmo do Valle Nogueira Filho, State
Government Secretary,
received the 26th São Paulo International Film
Festival staff at the Palace
of Government, when the sponsorship agreement was
signed.
Geraldo
Alkmin said he was sorry he could not make it to the
concert opening
the event, with Finnish rock band "Leningrad
Cowboys", on the coming October
16th, for ethical reasons, and to observe the election
law. As candidate for
re-election to the São Paulo State Government,
Geraldo Alkmin cannot attend
inauguration events which have his support.
On the other hand, São Paulo city's mayor,
Marta Suplicy, who does not run
for any public position at the moment, said she will
schedule her presence
at the October 16th celebration, according to information
given by Monica
Valente, her office Manager.
The
São Paulo International Film Festival is an
Official State event
according to State Law no. 4.520, from 1.17.1985,
regulated by act no.
24.168, from 10.25.85. It is also a City Law no. 11.218,
from November 18th
1992, regulated by act no.37.840, from March 3rd 1999.
During the meeting with the Festival staff, Governor
Alkmin took the chance
to ask for suggestions for national movies he was
supposed to see. The film
"City of God", by Fernando Meirelles and
Kátia Lund, present Box Office
recordist in Brazil, is scheduled in his appointment
book. "Uma Onda no Ar -
Rádio Favela", by Helvécio Ratton,
is also scheduled. He then ordered
suggestions from the program of the 26th Festival,
which will take place
from October 18 to 31.
"If
re-elected, I will continue with the politics of sponsoring
services and
Cultural products at popular prices, extending it
to Cinema events", said
the Governor. Culture Secretary Marcos Mendonça,
on the other hand, hopes
that the next Government will go on with the incentive
policies to the
development of São Paulo Cinema, started in
his management.
