MOSTRA EM SESSÕES GRATUITAS PARA SECUNDARISTAS NO FESTIVAL DA
JUVENTUDE
Promovido
pela 26ª Mostra BR de Cinema – Mostra Internacional de Cinema
em São Paulo, o Festival da Juventude promove sessões voltadas
para estudantes secundaristas de filmes da programação do
evento.
As sessões
acontecem diariamente às 12h30 no Cinearte 1 (Av Paulista 2073,
Cerqueira César) e são gratuitas, bastando portar carteira
de estudante oficial. As projeções do Festival da Juventude
são liberadas para menores de 18 anos (todas as demais sessões
da 26ª são impróprias para menores de 18 anos) e nelas
são distribuídos lanches oferecidos pela Viena Delicatessen.

No Festival

12h30 - Naqoyqatsi - Godfrey Reggio (“Naqoyqatsi”, EUA, 89

Terceiro filme da trilogia “qatsi”, tendo como trilha sonora
as hipnóticas composições de Philip Glass. Em língua
indígena hopi (povo do nordeste do Arizona), “naqoyqatsi”
quer dizer “uma vida matando uns aos outros”, ou “a
guerra como estilo de vida”. Neste novo filme, Godfrey Reggio novamente
abdica da palavra, descendo às profundezas da hiperacelerada, caótica
e globalizada sociedade do século 21. “Eu quero oferecer
um concerto cinemático, dar vazão ao deslumbramento e ao
terror incrustado em nosso dia-a-dia”, afirma o diretor. Em 1975,
o norte-americano Godfrey Reggio começou a trabalhar no grandioso
projeto de sua trilogia “qatsi”, cuja estréia se daria
quase dez anos depois, com “Koyaanisqatsi” (prêmio de
público na 8ª Mostra). A 12ª Mostra apresentou o segundo
longa da série, “Powaqqatsi”.

“Durval Discos” é inspirado nas antigas lojas de discos
de vinil de São Paulo, a narrativa tem como pano de fundo. Durval
e sua mãe moram isolados há muitos anos nos fundos de uma
dessas lojas, nos anos 1970. Eles vivem em um mundo anacrônico e
entediante. Um certo dia, Durval decide contratar uma empregada, que desaparece
no dia seguinte e deixa para trás uma menina de cinco anos. A partir
daí, o filme se transforma em uma trama de contornos policiais,
agonia e libertação, com toques de absurdo.

A história de um grupo de refugiados afegãos que trabalham
ilegalmente no Irã é vista por meio dos olhos de um adolescente
iraniano que trabalha numa construção e recebe um pagamento
irrisório. Quando um dos operários afegãos sofre
uma queda durante o trabalho e fere-se gravemente, o emprego de todos
fica ameaçado, pois as autoridades não podem saber como
se deu o acidente. O filho do operário acidentado passa a substitui-lo
na construção e nasce uma rivalidade entre ele e o rapaz
iraniano. Uma descoberta inesperada fará o garoto iraniano mudar
de atitude. O diretor Majid Majidi teve seu longa de 1997, “Filhos
do Paraíso”, indicado ao Oscar.

12h30 - Dogtown and Z-Boys - Stacy Peralta (“Dogtown and Z-Boys”,

Nos anos 1960, um grupo de garotos que trocou o mar pelas calçadas
nas tardes ensolaradas da Califórnia inventariam o skate e passariam
a influenciar os adolescentes de todo o mundo. Sua turma era a Zephyr
Team, que depois ficou conhecida como Z-Boys. Mais que um esporte, o grupo
influenciou todo um modo de vida, interferindo em temas, como moda, sexo,
drogas, música e comportamento. Agora, 25 anos depois, membros
do grupo relembram a gênese do movimento. O filme ganhou o Prêmio
de Público do Festival de Sundance. A narração é
do ator e diretor Sean Penn.

12h30 – O Gotejar Da Luz - Fernando Vendrell (“O Gotejar Da
Luz”, Portugal/Moçambique, 110 min, 2001) - falado em português.
Rui Pedro passou sua infância em Moçambique, nos anos 1950,
imerso nas profundezas da selvagem natureza africana e isolado do resto
do país um imenso rio. Filho de colonizadores portugueses, teve
que confrontar-se desde os seus primeiros anos com forças antagônicas:
a cultura européia e a africana, o senhor e o escravo, a paz e
a violência, o ódio e a paixão. Quarenta anos depois
de sair do país, ele volta a Moçambique e procura os restos
das plantações de algodão onde ele cresceu. Ali ele
relembra o verão em que teve que tomar a mais importante decisão
de sua vida: ser africano ou ser europeu. O filme é baseado no
conto “O Lento Gotejar da Luz”, de Leite de Vasconcelos, jornalista
e escritor que cresceu em Moçambique e teve que sair do país
por razões políticas.

Buenos Aires e toda a Argentina atravessam uma das maiores crises de sua
história. As ruas estão tomadas por desempregados, os protestos
se tornaram rotina. Elsa tem apenas 25 anos e procura não perder
a esperança no futuro. Mas a única saída que vislumbra
é conseguir o dinheiro que lhe permita realizar seu maior sonho:
viajar para a Itália. No novo país, pretende encontrar o
homem que ama e ter uma vida diferente, uma vida melhor. Seu sonho é
incentivado por seu avô, um velho imigrante siciliano que lhe transmite
valores morais e políticos. Elsa também encontra apoio nos
três amigos que possui: Walter, Laura e Toni.

Permanecer em Madri durante o tórrido mês de agosto é
uma tarefa para poucos. Neste período, os relacionamentos se fragilizam,
o estresse aumenta, imprevistos acontecem e homens e mulheres ficam à
beira de um ataque de nervos. Um dos poucos que mantém sua postura
é o taxista Hassan, um marroquino que ainda não compreendeu
como funciona a mente dos espanhóis. Ele é o fio condutor
de uma comédia.

12h30 - A História de Uma Rebelde - Buddhadeb Dasgupta (“Manda

A história de uma garota, Lati, cuja mãe Rajani é
uma prostituta que mora e trabalha num bordel do subúrbio numa
cidade do interior da Índia. Rajani planeja entregar sua filha
para um libidinoso homem mais velho, que seria um rico marido para a filha
e um protetor para ela. Mas Lati, que deseja voltar para a escola e terminar
os estudos, foge para Calcutá. A descoberta desse novo mundo é
narrada paralelamente a outras histórias que falam de emancipação.
Numa abordagem surrealista típica do diretor, também estarão
presentes no filme um gato atrapalhado e de um inteligente macaco.

Kerou é uma estudante colegial de 17 anos. Como outras garotas
de sua idade, ela está em busca de si mesma. Um pouco sonhadora,
ainda lhe falta autoconfiança e ela sente saudades do estado de
negligência e liberdade típico da infância. Shihao
é um garoto bonito e sedutor, com um quê de rebeldia no sangue.
Ele é o preferido entre as garotas. Yuezhen, a melhor amiga de
Kerou, sente ciúmes e raiva dele. Shihao, apesar de estar mais
interessado em ganhar o campeonato de natação da escola,
sente-se muito atraído pelas maneiras misteriosas de Kerou e gostaria
de conquistá-la. Um dia, de repente, Kerou aparece no meio de um
treino de Shihao e abre seu coração. O que ela lhe diz vai
mexer profundamente com seus sentimentos. Juntos, os dois adolescentes
vão ter o primeiro vislumbre dos prazeres, mas também dos
dissabores, do mundo adulto.

Baseado em livro do escritor português José Saramago, mostra
o que acontece quando, depois de um terremoto que se abateu sobre Europa
sem ser sentido por qualquer sismógrafo, surge uma fenda exatamente
na fronteira entre a Espanha e a França e a península Ibérica
separa-se do resto do continente. Milagres se sucedem nesta saga em que
três homens, duas mulheres e um cão se vêem à
deriva em uma longa e imprevisível viagem. George Sluizer nasceu
em Paris e é roteirista, diretor e produtor. Em 1972, dirigiu no
Brasil o filme “A Faca e o Rio”. Em 1980, produziu “Fitzcarraldo”,
de Werner Herzog.

Nascido numa sexta-feira 13 na Clínica Franz Kafka, Gregoire é,
aos 35 anos, desajeitado, ansioso e tímido com as mulheres. Parece
uma mistura de Woody Allen e Peter Sellers. Ele ainda mora com a mãe
e o tio alcoólatra e trabalha como modesto funcionário numa
empresa de seguros. Sua vida muda completamente quando, num domingo, conhece
a avoada Odile, uma professora de dança para crianças que
devora livros românticos. Com muito custo e usando de subterfúgios
inacreditáveis, ele consegue marcar um encontro com Odile, errando
o dia (final da Copa do Mundo de Futebol, em 1998) e o local (um bar chamado
Penalty, lotado de torcedores fanáticos). Um turbilhão de
mal-entendidos, gafes e ríspidos bate-bocas transformará
o pequeno encontro numa catástrofe. Tanto que Gregoire Moulin,
já sem muita paciência com as pessoas, declara guerra contra
o mundo.

“Edifício Master” aborda a vida privada na grande cidade,
onde o apartamento é o último refúgio de individualidade.
Durante uma semana, Eduardo Coutinho e sua equipe conversaram com 27 moradores
de um enorme edifício de apartamentos em Copacabana. O filme foi
vencedor o prêmio de melhor documentário no Festival de Gramado
este ano.

Quatro crianças de uma vila perdida nas montanhas partem em uma
imprevisível viagem em direção à estrada de
ferro que corta as estepes, no lugar onde um dia passou a Grande Rota
da Seda. Encontram um pintor, que pode significar um mestre a seguir ou
então perceber que já está na hora de voltar para
casa. Marat Sarulu nasceu em Talas (Quirguistão), estudou cinema
na Academia de Moscou e em 1993 dirigiu seu primeiro longa, “In
Spe”. Realizou ainda o documentário “Mandala”
e é também co-roteirista de “O Filho Adotivo”,
de Aktan Abdykalykov, exibido na 25a Mostra.

12h30 - Carlo Giuliani, Ragazzo - Francesca Comencini (“Carlo Giuliani,
Ragazzo”, Itália, 63 min, 2002) - falado em italiano, com

Documentário sobre a morte do jovem Carlo Giuliani, que recebeu
um tiro na cabeça disparado por um policial em Gênova, em
20 de julho de 2001,durante um protesto pacífico contra o encontro
que reunia os líderes dos oito países mais “desenvolvidos”
do mundo para discutir a globalização mundial. O crime chocou
o mundo e o processo de globalização ganhou um mártir.
A diretora Francesca Comencini estreou na direção com o
longa “Pianoforte”, que ganhou o prêmio De Sica no Festival
de Veneza. Figura ainda entre os 33 diretores do longa “Un Altro
Mondo è Possibile”, também presente nesta 26a Mostra.

SESSIONS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT THE 26TH SÃO PAULO INTERNATIONAL
FILM FESTIVAL
Created
by the São Paulo International Film Festival, The Youth Festival
has
promoted, for three years already, exclusive sessions to high school
students.
The sessions
take place daily at 12:30pm at Cinearte 1 (Paulista Avenue
2073) and are free of charge, just presenting the official student ID
card.
Children under 18 years-old are allowed at the screenings for the Youth
Festival (all other sessions are over 18 only) and there they are offered
a
snack provided by Viena Delicatessen. For group reservation contact (11)

Third film of the "qatsi" trilogy , with hypnotic compositions
by Phillip
Glass for soundtrack. Spoken in Indian language hopi (people from the
Northeast Arizona), "naqoyqatsi" means "a life killing
one another", or "war
as a lifestyle". In this new film, Godfrey Reggio again does without
words,
to the depths of the hyperaccelerated, chaotic and globalized society
of the
21st century. "I would like to provide a cinematic concert, to give
vent to
the wonder and to the terror embedded in our day-to-day life." Says
the
director.
In 1975, North American Giodfrey Reggio started to work on the great Project
that is his trilogy "gatsi", which opening happenend almost
ten years after,
with "Koyaanisqatsi" (audience award at the 8th Festival). The
12th festival
presented the second feature of the series, "Powaqqtsi".

DURVAL RECORDS
Inspired in the old stores that sold vinyl records, the story is set with
one of these stores.in São Paulo, in the seventies, as a background.
Durval
and his mother Carmita have lived alone for many years at the back of
the
Durval Discos shop. Theirs is an anachronic, boring world. One certain
day,
Durval decides to hire a maid, who disappears next day leaving behind
a
child, age 5 . As from this point, the film becomes a plot of police
encounters, agony, and liberation, with touches of the absurd.

The story of a group of Afghan refugees working illegally in Iran is seen
through the eyes of an Iranian teenager who works on a building site paid
a
negligible amount. When one of the laborers falls while on the job and
is
seriously hurt, all of their jobs are threatened, for the authorities
must
not know how the accident occurred. The son of the injured worker takes
his
place on the building site and rivalry arises between him and the Iranian
boy. An unexpected discovery will make the Iranian boy change in attitude.
Director Majid Majidi had his 1997 feature film "Children of Heaven"
nominated for an Oscar.

12h30 - Dogtown and Z-Boys - Stacy Peralta ("Dogtown and Z-Boys",

In the sixties, a group of boys who exchanged the ocean for the sidewalks
on
sunny afternoons in California would invent the skate and begin to influence
teenagers the world over. This was the Zephyr Team, later known as Z-Boys.
More than sport, the group influenced all of a way of life, and intervened
in themes such as fashion, sex, drugs, music, and behavior. Today, 25
years
later, members of the group go back over the origins of the movement.
The
film won the Award from the Public at the Sundance Festival. The narration
is by actor and director Sean Penn.

Rui Pedro spent his childhood in Mozambique in the fifties, deep in the
wilds of Africa, cut off from the rest of the country by an immense river.
The son of Portuguese settlers, from his earliest years, he was obliged
to
come to grips with antagonic forces: the European and the African cultures,
lord and slave, peace and violence, hate and passion. Forty years after
leaving the country, he returns to Mozambique in search of the cotton
fields
where he grew up. And there, he has cause to remember the summer when
he had
to make the most important decision of his life: to be African or to be
European. The film is based on a short story "O Lento Gotejar da
Luz", by
Leite de Vasconcelos, journalist and writer who grew up in Mozambique
and
was obliged to leave the country for political reasons.

Buenos Aires and all of Argentina are in the throes of one of the greatest
crises in history. The streets are crowded with people unemployed, and
demonstrations are routine. Elsa is only 25 years old and striving not
to
lose hope in the future. The only way out that she can think of is to
find
the means to allow her to fulfill her greatest dream: to travel to Italy.
In
the new country, she intends to meet the man she loves and lead a different
life, a better life. She finds incentive in her grandfather, an aged
Sicilian who imbues her with moral and political values. She also finds
support in three friends: Walter, Laura, and Toni.

To remain in Madrid during the torrid month of August is for the few.
At
this time, relationships are strained, more stressful, the unpredictable
liable to happen - nerve racking for men and women. One of the few to
hold
steady is taxi driver Hassan, from Morocco who has not as yet grasped
the
workings of the Spanish mind and is to be the lead in a comedy.

The story of a girl, Lati, whose mother Rajani is a prostitute who lives
and
works in a brothel in the suburbs of a town in up-country India. Rajani
intends to hand her daughter over to a libidinous older man who would
be a
rich husband to her daughter and protect her. Lati, however, wishes to
return to school and complete her studies. She runs away to Calcutta.
The
discovery of this new world is narrated parallel to other stories that
tell
of emancipation. In a surrealistic approach that is typical of the director,
also present in the film are a clumsy cat and a clever monkey.

Kerou is a college student age 17. Like other girls her age, she is in
search of herself. Somewhat of a dreamer, she still lacks self-assurance
and
she misses the state of negligence and freedom typical of childhood. Shihao
is a handsome seductive boy with a touch of the rebel in his blood. He
is
quite the favorite among the girls. Yuezhen, Kerou's best friend, feels
jealous of him and is angry with him. Although Shihao is out to win the
swimming championship at school, he feels much drawn by Kerou's mysterious
ways and would like to win her. One day, Kerou suddenly comes on the scene,
when Shihao is in the middle of a training session, for a heart-felt talk.
What she is to tell him is to affect him deeply. Together, the two teenagers
are to have their first glimpse of the pleasures of the adult world, as
well
as its disappointments.

Based on the book by Jose Saramago, the films shows what happens when,
after
an earthquake that shook Europe unperceived by any seismograph, a crack
appeared precisely on the borders between France and Spain and the Iberian
peninsula is separated from the rest of the continent. A succession of
miracles ensues in this saga where three men, two women, and one dog find
themselves adrift on a long and unpredictable journey. George Sluizer
was
born in Paris and is screenwriter, director and producer. In 1972, he
directed in Brazil the movie "A Faca e o Rio". In 1980, he produced
"Fritzcarraldo", by Herner Herzog.

Born on a Friday, the thirteenth, at the Franz Kafka Clinic, Gregoire
is, at
the age of 35, ungainly, anxious, and shy with women. He looks like a
blend
between Woody Allen and Peter Sellers. He still lives with his mother
and an
alcoholic uncle and works as a humble employee in an insurance company.
His
life changes completely when, one Sunday, he meets flighty Odile, a dance

and
using unbelievable subterfuge, he contrives to make an date with Odile,
but
gets the day wrong (the finals in the World Football Cup, in 1998) and
the
place wrong (a bar named Penalty crowded with fanatic fans). A whirl of
misunderstanding, faux pas and heated arguments, are to transform the
small
encounter into a catastrophe. So much so that Gregoire Moulin, with little
patience for people, declares war on the world.

Four children from a village lost in the mountains set off on a chancy

Sarulu was born in Talas (Quirqistao), studied Cinema at the Moscow academy
and in 1993 directed his first feature, "In Spe". He also made
the
documentary "Mandala" and is the co-writer of "The Adopted
Son", by Aktan
Abdykalykov, seen at the 25th Film Festival.

Documentary on the death of young Carlo Giulani, age 23, who was killed
with
a shot in the head by a policeman in Geneve, in July 20th 2001, during
a
pacific protest against the meeting of the eight leaders from the most
"developed" countries to discuss world globalization. The crime
shocked the
world and the process of globalization now has a martyr. Director Francesca
Comencini directorial debut was the feature "Pianoforte", winner
of the De
Sica award at the Venice Film Festival. She is also among the 33 directors
in the feature "Un Altro Mondo e Possibile", also present in
this Festival.
