RELOADED - AÇÃO PARA RECARRECAR ENERGIAS

Que
o 56º Festival de Cannes, espera-se com paixão, sirva
de novo para recarregar as nossas energias com um bom cinema instigante,
transgressor, humanitário, inteligente. Mais que Lars von
Trier, que vai mostrar "Dogville", queridinho de Gilles
Jacob, o diretor do festival, este é o ano dos maneirismos
audaciosos de "Matrix Reloaded", dos irmãos Andy
e Larry Wachowski. Mesmo apresentado fora de competição,
"Matrix Reloaded" (Matrix Recarregado), serão
por ele ditados os signos do novo festival.
Embora Hector Babenco diga estar cercado de feras
e totens sagrados do cinema mundial (Trier, Clint Eastwood, Sokúrov,
Ruiz), a competição parece estar desenhada para
a sua nova sagração mundial depois de se tornar
o maior recordista de bilheteria do recente cinema brasileiro
com "Carandiru", um título em tupi-guarani quase
impronunciável em outras línguas e por isso mesmo
ainda mais fascinante. Carandiru, o nome do maior presídio
da América Latina, quer dizer algo como 'território
pantanoso ou 'terra sem futuro' no sentido figurado, em tupi-guarani.
O

destaca as seguintes personalidades que passarão por lá
entre 14 e 25 de maio: Nicole Kidman, Chloë Sevigny, Lauren
Bacall, Ben Gazzara, James Caan, Charlotte Rampling, Ludivine
Sagnier, Bernard Giraudeau, Michel Piccoli, Elsa Zylberstein,
Vincent Gallo, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne,
Béatrice Dalle, Olivier Gourmet, Isabelle Huppert, Benoît
Magimel, Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Keanu Reeves, Monica Bellucci,
Lambert Wilson, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, Didier Bourdon,
Hélène de Fougerolles, Toni Collette, Peter Mullan,
Tilda Swinton, Ewan McGregor e Jean-Marc Barr.
À
margem dessa necessidade de se atrair a cobertura de redes de
televisão, o que não deixa sempre de ser uma boa
publicidade para o cinema, a intensa programação
de filmes inéditos é impossível de se acompanhar.
Muitos deles acabam sendo sacrificados, são pouco vistos
e comentados por um ramo da imprensa que se vê obrigada
a cobrir o 'feijão com arroz' da competição
ou das personalidades do cinema presentes. É de uma espécie
de confraria de representantes de outros festivais especializados,
como a Mostra Internacional de Cinema/ São Paulo International
Film Festival, que muitas novas revelações precisam
para conquistar o coração de novos espectadores
pelo mundo. Particularmente, como jornalista, também sempre
preferi prospectar nas atividades e programações
paralelas dos grandes festivais de cinema.
Abaixo, a lista dos diretores e filmes que disputam
este ano a Palma de Ouro de Cannes, um prêmio cujos resultados,
acertados ou não, acabam repercutindo por muito tempo;
no mínimo, até a festa do Oscar do ano seguinte:

CANNES RELOADED - ACTION TO RECHARGE THE BATTERIES

Hopefully
the 56th Cannes Festival can once more recharge our batteries
with good instigate, transgressor, humanitarian and intelligent
cinema. More than Lars von Trier who will show "Dogville",
and is the beloved filmmaker of Gilles Jacob's, the festival director,
this is the year of the super audacious "Matrix Reloaded"
by the brothers Andy and Larry Wachowski. Even being showed out
of competition "Matrix Reloaded" will dictate the signs
of the new festival.
Although
Hector Babenco says that experts and sacred totems of the world
cinema will surround him (Trier, Clint Eastwood, Sokúrov,
Ruiz), the competition seems to have been designed for his new
worldwide consecration after beating the national box-office record
with "Carandiru", a title in "tupi-guarani"
almost unpronounceable in other languages and for this reason
even more fascinating. The word "Carandiru"- the name
of the largest penitentiary in Latin America, means swampy territory
or "land without future" in its metaphorical meaning
in "tupi-guarani".

Leaving
the necessity to attract TV Stations to cover the event apart,
which is always a good publicity for the cinema, the intense programs
of the new films are impossible to be followed. Lots of these
films end up being sacrificed and not many people get to see them
and a wing of the press that is forced to cover the competition
commonplace or the present celebrities only mentions them. It's
a kind of confraternity of other specialized festival representatives
such as São Paulo International Film Festival that many
revelations need in order to conquer the heart of new audiences
worldwide. Personally, as a journalist, I've always preferred
to check around the parallel activities and programs of the large
film festivals.

Palm, a prize which results have an indirect influence upon for
a long time, at least until the Oscar of the year after:
