 Às
vésperas do anúncio da seleção oficial
do Festival de Cannes, nesta quarta-feira 24/4, cresce o descontentamento
da classe cinematográfica francesa contra a demissão
tempestuosa de Pierre Lescure da direção do Canal
+, o canal de televisão por assinatura que mais garantia
as co-produções e a diversidade autoral do cinema
francês. O ato foi consumado por Jean-Marie Messier, presidente
da Vivendi Universal, que gere e passa a ter controle absoluto
das operações do Canal + a partir de sua sede em
Hollywood. Numa seqüência de lances espetaculares,
os empregados do Canal + rebelaram-se contra a demissão
de Lescure, interromperam a programação da tevê
por assinatura e transmitiram ao vivo na terça-feira da
semana passada a assembléia com discursos de protesto.
O
cineasta americano David Lynch, convidado a presidir o júri
do próximo Festival de Cannes (15 a 26/5), ao lado do brasileiro
Walter Salles, considerou esta reviravolta desastrosa para o cinema
francês. Em entrevista para o jornal francês 'Le Monde'.
Lynch teve seus dois últimos filmes "Uma História
Real" e "Mulholland Drive" produzidos pelo StudioCanal,
um dos braços mais fortes do Canal +/ Vivendi Universal.
"Eu
penso", disse Lynch ao 'Le Monde', "que isto é
terrível para o Canal +, para Pierre Lescure (que era o
último remanescente da criação deste projeto),
para mil e para a diversidade em matéria de criação
cinematográfica e televisiva. Eu creio que Vivendi Universal
é uma empresa perfeita, de um lado com um estúdio
hollywoodiano encarregado de produzir filmes de grandes orçamentos
para os Estados Unidos e para o estrangeiro e, de outro lado,
com o Canal + que se batia por uma outra maneira de pensar o cinema.
Vivendi Universal possuía o melhor dos dois mundos possíveis
em matéria de produção cinematográfica.
Isto infelizmente acabou. Nós entramos em uma era de estandardização,
de um cinema produzido em cadeia. É o universo Mc Donald's."
Mais
de 250 personalidades do cinema francês já se solidarizaram
contra a demissão de Pierre Lescure em abaixo assinado.
Entre os nomes destacam-se os seguintes notáveis: Carole
Bouquet, Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Juliette Binoche,
Monica Bellucci, Pierre Arditi, Virginie Ledoyen (atrizes); Maurice
Pialat, Bertrand Blier, Bertrand Tavernier, Claude Berri, Emir
Kusturica, David Lynch, Mathieu Kassovitz e Elie Chouraqui (diretores);
e Michel Platini (ex-jogador e treinador da seleção
francesa de futebol).

LYNCH PRONOUNCES 'MC DONALD'S' CINEMA ERA
Very
close to the announcement to the official Cannes Festival
selection, this Wednesday 24/4, the discontentment of the
French cinematographic class grows against the demission
of Pierre Lescure from the Canal + direction, the Cable
TV network that guaranteed the most of the co-productions
and the authorial diversity in French cinema. The act was
consumed by Jean-Marie Messier, Vivendi Universal's president,
that administrates and starts to have absolute control of
the Canal + operations from its headquarters in Hollywood.
In a sequence of spectacular moves, the Canal + employees
rebelled against Lescure's demission, interrupted the program
of the TV and transmitted live last Tuesday the assembly
with protest speeches.
American
filmmaker David Lynch, invited to preside the jury at the
next Cannes Festival (15 to 26/5), besides the Brazilian
filmmaker Walter Salles, considered this turn to be disastrous
for French cinema, in interview to the French newspaper
'Le Monde'. Lynch had his two last films "A Straight
Story" and "Mulholland Drive" produced by
StudioCanal, one of the strongest branches of Canal +/ Vivendi
Universal.
"I
think", said Lynch to 'Le Monde', "that this is
terrible for Canal +, for Pierre Lescure (who was the last
remnant of this project's creation), for me and for diversity
in terms of cinema and television creation. I believe that
Vivendi Universal is a perfect company, one side with a
Hollywood studio in charge of producing high-budget films
for the United States and foreign countries and, on the
other side, with Canal +, which struggled for another way
of thinking cinema. Vivendi Universal had the best possible
of the two worlds in terms of cinematographic production.
Unfortunately it is over. We entered a standardization era
of line-production cinema. It is Mc Donald's universe."
Over
250 personalities in French movies have already showed solidarity
against Pierre Lescure's demission in a petition. Among
the names, the following stand out: Carole Bouquet, Catherine
Deneuve, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Juliette Binoche, Monica
Bellucci, Pierre Arditi, Virginie Ledoyen (actresses); Maurice
Pialat, Bertrand Blier, Bertrand Tavernier, Claude Berri,
Emir Kusturica, David Lynch, Mathieu Kassovitz and Elie
Chouraqui (directors); and Michel Platini (ex-player and
coach of the French soccer selection).
