 Saiu
nesta quarta (24/4) a esperada lista dos filmes que irão
competir de 15 a 26 de maio para a 'Palma de Ouro' do 55°
Festival de Cannes. Gilles Jacob, presidente do festival, e Thierry
Frémaux, seu diretor artístico, revelaram ter visto
2281 filmes, dos quais 939 longas-metragens, de 89 países,
e mais 1342 curtas para chegar aos 23 longas privilegiados pela
escolha.
Trata-se
realmente de uma lista de habitués de Cannes, de nomes
respeitados, com poucas surpresas e revelações.
O melhor filme de Cannes 2002 sairá da seguinte lista:
"10",
do mestre iraniano Abbas Kiarostami; "24 Hour Party People/"
e "All or Nothing", dos ingleses Michael Winterbottom
e Mike Leigh; "Chihwaseon/ Bêbado de Mulheres e Pinturas",
do coreano Im Kwon-Taek; "Intervenção Divina/
Intervention Divine", produção palestina dirigida
por Elia Suleiman; o contraponto "Kedma", do israelense
Amos Gitaï; "O Filho/ Le Fils", dos irmãos
belgas Jean-Pierre e Luc Dardenne (Palma de Ouro em 1990 com "Rosetta")=à"O
Homem sem Passado/ Mies Vailla Menneisyyttä", do finlandês
Aki Kaurismäki; "O Princípio da Incerteza",
do decano português Manoel de Oliveira; "Punch-Drunk
Love", do americano Paul Thomas Anderson ("Magnólia);
"Prazeres Desconhecidos/ Unknown Pleasures", do chinês

americano Alexander Payne; "L'Ora di Religione", de
Marco Bellochio; "Demonlover", do francês Olivier
Assayas; "Irreversible", produção francesa
com direção do franco-argentino Gaspar Noë;
e "Bowling for Columbien", do americano Michael Moore.
Competem ainda pela França : "L'adversaire" de
Nicole Garcia e "Marie-Jo et ses deux amours" de Robert
Guediguian. Também em competição fica destacado
como filme de abertura do festival o novo "Hollywood Ending",
de Woody Allen. O encerramento do festival fica por conta de Claude
Lelouch com "And Now... Ladies and Gentlemen".
Sob
a presidência do diretor americano David Lynch, o júri
de Cannes será formado pelo diretor brasileiro Walter Salles
("Central do Brasil", "Abril Despedaçado"),
as atrizes Sharon Stone (EUA), Michelle Yeoh (malaia) e Christine
Hakim (Indonésia). Mais o diretor dinamarquês Bille
August e os diretores franceses Claude Miller, Régis Warnier
e Raoul Ruiz (de origem chilena).
O
filme brasileiro "Cidade de Deus", de Fernando Meirelles
será apresentado na seleção oficial, mas
fora de competição. Também selecionado pelo
festival, para o panorama 'Un Certain Regard', o longa "Madama
Satã", de Karim Ainouz. Ambos de diretores estreantes
e produções da VídeoFilmes dos irmãos
cineastas João e Walter Salles.
CENSURA
NO FESTIVAL DE ISTAMBUL
Informe
da FIPRESCI, Fédération Internationale de la Presse
Cinématographique, assinado pelo seu diretor Klaus Eder
denuncia a censura praticada no 'Istanbul International Film Festival'
(13-28 Abril).
Um
filme turco foi proibido pela censura, "Büyük Adam
Kücük Ask" de Handan Ipekci. O s júris internacional
e da FIPRESCI protestaram.
"Büyük
Adam Kücük Ask" já foi apresentado no Festival
de Antalya de 2001, e ganhou prêmios por melhor filme, melhor
roteiro e por três de seus atores. No Festival de Ankara
de 2001, o filme também ganhou prêmios por três
de seus atores. A sessão turca da FIPRESCI, SIYAD, também
deu ao filme em 2002 três prêmios de atuação.
Nos
anos 80, um júri internacional liderado por Elia Kazan
se recusou a ver filmes e dar prêmios a não ser que
a censura turca parasse de tocar os filmes programados pelo festival.

2002 OFFICIAL SELECTION CHOOSES 23 FEATURES OUT OF 939 SUBMISSIONS
It
came out this Wednesday (24/4) the awaited list of films
that will compete from May 15 to 26 for the 'Golden Palm'
at the 55th Cannes Festival. Gilles Jacob, president of
the festival, and Thierry Frémaux, its artistic director,
revealed they have seen 2281 films, of which 939 features,
from 89 countries, and 1342 shorts to get down to the 23
features privileged by the choice.
It
is really a list of Cannes habitués, of respected
names, with few surprises and revealing. The best film in
Cannes 2002 will come out of the following list:

the opening film stands out, the new "Hollywood Ending",
by Woody Allen. The closing of the festival will be by Claude
Lelouch and his "And Now... Ladies and Gentlemen".
Headed
by the American director David Lynch, Cannes' jury will
be composed by the Brazilian director Walter Salles ("Central
do Brasil", "Abril Despedaçado"),
the actresses Sharon Stone (USA), Michelle Yeoh (Malaysia)
and Christine Hakim (Indonesia). And the Danish director
Bille August and the French directors Claude Miller, Régis
Warnier and Raoul Ruiz (originally Chilean).
The
Brazilian film "Cidade de Deus", by Fernando Meirelles
will be shown at the official selection, but out of competitions.
Also selected by the festival, for the panorama 'Un Certain
Regard', the feature "Madama Satã", by
Karim Ainouz. Both by debutant directors and produced by
VídeoFilmes of the filmmaker brothers João
and Walter Salles.
CENSORSHIP AT ISTANBUL FESTIVAL
A
note by FIPRESCI, Fédération Internationale
de la Presse Cinématographique, signed by its director
Klaus Eder denounces the censorship practiced at the 'Istanbul
International Film Festival' (April 13-28). A Turkish film
has been forbidden by censorship, "Büyük
Adam Kücük Ask" by Handan Ipekci. Both the
international jury and the FIPRESCI jury protested against
this.
"Büyük
Adam Kücük Ask" has earlier been presented
at the Antalya Film Festival of 2001, and has won prizes
for best film, for best script and for three of its actors.
At the Ankara Film Festival of 2001, the film has as well
won prizes for three of its actors. Also the Turkish national
section of FIPRESCI, SIYAD, has in 2002 awarded three actor
prizes to the film.
Back
in the 80s, an international jury headed by Elia Kazan had
refused to see films and to award prizes unless the Turkish
censorship would stop to touch the films programmed by the
festival.
