CHILDREN
AT THE MOVIES
MAGIC
AND SPELL THAT LAST FOREVER
"An
adult can hardly forget the first time he went to the movies
and entered this fantastic world of enchantment. It is on
this discovery that Patrícia Durães (picture)
bets since 1993, taking children to the movies at special
and exclusive times. It is called 'Projeto Escola' (School
Project) and receives groups of students at all ages for
the important work of forming audiences. The last 'Projeto
Escola' took place from April 15 to 30, and assembled in
groups 4.100 children to interact with shadows theater -
the primitive origin of the movies - and watch the French
film "Princes and Princesses", by Michel Ocelot,
inspired by this animation technique.
The
French movie inspired the architect and performing artist
Guto Lacaz, who created a scenery called 'Shadows in the
Movies' with optical toys, acetate drawings, superposed
images in transparency and movement. Besides that, the children
were stimulated to create a drawing that was then put in
a monocular that they could take home.
This
project has already attracted 47 thousand extra viewers
for Carla Camurati's Brazilian success "Carlota Joaquina
- Princesa do Brasil". Other 35 thousand children took
part in the fine arts workshops with the screenings of the
Swedish short "Linea in Monet's garden". The French
classic "Ballon Rouge", by Albert Lamorisse, attracted
other 12.500 students who made experiments with air. "Central
Station", by Walter Salles, was seen by 28 thousand
students.
At
the moment, the project is closing submissions for the second
round of 'Shadows in the Movies' with the movie "Princes
and Princesses" and is seeking sponsorship to be able
to go to other Brazilian cities out of the São Paulo
- Rio de Janeiro circuit. More information can be obtained
